I have two types of hummingbirds coming to my feeder here in Victoria. Anna's which spend all year here, and the Rufus, which comes back around March each year.

The male Rufus is very aggressive and will try and chase the larger Anna's away from the feeder.

The Anna's start building their nests in January and will have at least two broods each year. I put a Cattail in my yard after christmas so that the females will come down to collect the fluff for their nests
By the time the Female Rufus come back the Anna's are all ready starting on their second nests
